This contribution is based on qualitative research carried out along the so-called "Balkan Route", in particular on the border between Serbia and Croatia and be-tween Bosnia Herzegovina and Croatia. One of the topics on which the present work focuses is the analysis of the border regime in relation to networks of solidari-ty with migrants in transit. Repression and criminalization, which are instrumental in maintaining control over irregular border crossings, influence the dimension of solidarity. Starting from a brief overview of how migration trajectories in the Bal-kans have evolved and changed, this paper highlights their relationship with sup-port for migrant transit. The focus of the paper is on the one hand on solidarity networks and practices that take shape on the Balkan route, and on the processes of criminalization and deterrence that they undergo; on the other hand, the contri-bution analyses the effects that these processes have on migration routes and solidarity groups.
