In a period when tourism is taking on new meanings, travellers are looking for alternative forms of vacation that only the cultural heritage of authentic territories can offer. The disruptive innovations of the digital age coexist with the need for slowness and to deepen the way of living the space and time of interpersonal relationships. To meet this growing segment of demand, tourism is moving from the experience economy to the transformation economy. The spirit of sharing and the sense of welcoming allow travellers to rediscover the cultural heritage and return the benefit received, in a perspective of continuous regeneration. In this sense, the identity and truth of (only apparently) marginal zones constitute a concrete opportunity for sustainable development.
