Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist, is one of the pioneers of American family and relationship therapy. His therapy is centered on understanding the mechanisms operating within the family system and on the process of differentiation of the self from the system, through the technique of detriangulation. Starting from the fundamental principles of Bowenian theory, through the literary case of the book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, passing through the physiology of the tree system in the organization of its roots, the author will try to illustrate Murray’s family theory Bowen in the case of family psycho-therapy with only one family member. Beginning with the genogram technique, in order to reach the com-plete differentiation of the self, from the mass of the family ego, we will go through the phases of a systemic therapeutic process.
Keywords: Murray Bowen, self-differentiation, genogram, individual systemic therapy.
