The control on the borders areas, in particular in such domains so far away like the South American were was a delicate issue for the Spanish Monarchy. Mostly in the case in regions that were not yet submitted to the Crown control. In this study, we aims to verify through direct source possible solutions proposed by experienced military people who served largely the Spanish Monarchy. The selected area were border of the Peruvian Vice kingdom, New Granada and the Trans Andean area, Chaco and Tucumán. We will examine the essay written by Bernardo de Vargas Machuca (1599), which represent a valid source for the comprehension of the phenomenon and puts in evidence strategies for the pacification of the borders of different ethnic indigenous tribes.
