The article aims to demonstrate the importance of the role of the archbishop of Lima Toribio Mogrovejo (1580-1606) for the circulation of information and the decision-making process of the Monarquía hispánica at the end of the XVIth century. The article will consider three case studies: the governance of the doctrinas de indios, the baptism for the bozales slaves, the quest for information by Crown about the creation of new dioceses. Through the analysis of the case studies the article would demonstrate the influence of the observations and suggestions sent by the archbishop to the king within the legislation for the American territories, in particular within the reales cédulas, and the subsequent Recopilación de Leyes de Indias.
