The authors deal with an experience carried out in therapeutic communities and try to un-derstand the functioning of the expanded mind within the multifamily psychoanalytic group (GMF). They propose the reasons for choosing this methodological model, referring to anti-institutional experiences and the specific characteristics of group therapy. They then highlight the classical and particular therapeutic factors of GMF, as well as those inherent in community treatment. They then propose some clinical vignettes from which they deduce a theoretical hy-pothesis concerning the development of a previously absent fantasy of care that involves all the members of the group through the development of an enlarged mind. The hypothetical mechanism of change of the bonds between the members of the group and in the internal groupality of the individuals is described. They concludes by describing the significant characteristics of the use of the multifamily group within a therapeutic community.
Keywords: multifamily group, extended mind, therapeutic factors, co-translation, care fantasy, internal groupality.
