When we talk about splitting in psychosomatics, our thoughts immediately run to the defenses implemented by the patient who somatizes, without thinking about splitting occurred within the psychosomatics itself or splitting that the healthcare professionals use as a defense against the countertransference experienced. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the importance of being able to recognize this mechanism not only in the patient but in the healthcare professionals as well, in order to promote a better mind-body integration.
