The article focus on a specific phase of the economic, social and institutional development of the territory of Vigevano and Lomellina, the Second World War. The attempt is that of observing the evolution of the district from a historical point of view, in relation to the background premises and to the subsequent consequences. The characteristics of Vigevano and Lomellina, despite the apparent similarities, are actually different compared to other territories in other areas of the country. In order to account for this specificity it is necessary to reconstruct the processes of industrialization of this territory in a long-term logic and thus understand the evolution of the productive system in the light of the particular territorial context and its development.
Keywords: Vigevano and Lomellina, shoe making district, post-World War II, Italian miracle, industrialization and urbanization, territorial development.
