The author, starting from a clinical work by Andreas Giannakoulas, analyzes the theme of trauma in Freud and in post-Freudian thought; she underlining how a serious situation of family pathology leads a child to use defense mechanisms, archaic and disproportionate, of denial, dissociation and splitting and how these interfere, in a massive and catastrophic way, with the processes of maturation. It is highlighted how, through the work of psychoanalysis, it becomes possible for the young patient to express and represent early and traumatic areas of her childhood life, opening to a narrative fertilized by the capacity to symbolize. Trauma is investigated, in its transgenerational and cumulative value, the consequences of which, as pointed out by A. Green, do not look like the scars of a wound, but rather like a chronic gangrene that prevents and distorts the development of the ego.
Keywords: Trauma, false self, denial, dissociation, splitting of the Ego, symbolization
