This article analyzes the history of administration science from its institutionalization in the Law Faculty in 1875 to its de-institutionalization in 1935, by examining the progressive shifting of its object of study, its disciplinary boundaries, and its scholarly status. After reconstructing the normative frameworks regulating the selection procedures, the article applies social network analysis techniques in order to investigate the structure of relationships among selection committee members. Within these networks, two different areas are identified: on the one hand, a core of jurists who were able to set the scientific criteria governing administrative disciplines; on the other, the periphery of the decision-making system. Finally, leaning on network analysis results, the article examines the scientific biographies of a pool of jurists in order to understand their contribution to the reproduction of knowledge in the field, thus combining the analysis of ideas and social structures with that of actors.
