Clinical experience has highlighted the need to identify the psychological and social problems of the patient candidate for organ transplantation and of the living donor, in order to prevent or stem any post-transplant psychopathological complications and improve adherence to treatment. Organ transplantation determines a significant improvement in the patient’s expectations and quality of life, although possible difficulties in adaptation, psychopathological disorders, problems with adherence to therapeutic protocols cannot be excluded. Non-adherence to immunosuppressive therapy can lead to rejection, post-transplant mortality, increased health care costs and decreased quality of life. Especially in the delicate sector of organ transplants, the fruitful collaboration between professionals with different scientific skills calls for both a better guarantee of mental health and greater effectiveness in treatments. It is advisable to compare and integrate different languages that avoid the fragmentation of knowledge and the isolation of individual professionals with possible negative effects on the patient, while positively influencing the final outcomes of the transplant procedure.
