I will try to address in this article how this unexpected external context immediately, al-most palpably, affected the usual setting of the sessions and generated very intense counter-transference effects. The urgency and traumatic nature of its unpredictable effects produced a very pronounced regressive movement, unleashing with uncontrollable force a death anxiety and bringing into play archaic defenses and an increased risk of acting out. The relational mode in which the analyst, caught once again in a situation symmetrical to that of the patients, sought to contain and propose a fragile balance between a threatening reality and a frightening inner world on which to collapse.

Keywords: war, transference effects, frame, relational analyst, traumatic event.
