The essay offers an excursus on the concept of exemplarity starting from Kant’s pre-critical writings, in which exemplarity is linked to the method of science (ars inveniendi) illustrated and clarified in the Lectures on Logic. Furthermore, the paper analyses distances and proximities between example (Beispiel) and exemplarity in Kant’s ethical and aesthetic reflections, highlighting how the notion of example (Beispiel) acquires meaning and value in Kant’s philosophy if conceived under the aegis of exemplarity.

Keywords: Ars inveniendi, virtue, example, exemplarity, taste, propaedeutics.
