Announcing a suicide is one of the most complex challenges facing a journalist, who must know how to navigate between the right/duty to inform and the need to be respectful to the person having made such choice and the family involved. To do such a job most effectively, the journalist has an ethical obligation to not disclose details and to uphold the context in which the episode took place. Because talking about suicide, means talking about suicide: each case is different.

Keywords: suicide, announcement, death, obligation, journalism.
