The article explores the possibility of applying Constitutional protections for trade union activities beyond the scope of pure subordinate work. Starting from a conceptualisation of the notion of work adopted by the Italian Constitution, the authors investigate the margin for an extension of freedom of association, collective bargaining and collective action to self-employed workers. They conclude that such guarantees are not limited to mere employees, given that autonomous work is also protected by the Italian Constitution.
