Intergenerational transmission of family relational models is one of the central themes in theorizing and in clinical work in the systemic re-lational approach. On this field, we have built a research to compare data from the PREPARE/ENRICH online questionnaire administered in couples in different phases of their relationship. The sample consists of pairs with relationship issues (CP) (19) and couples about to get mar-ried (CPM) (20). In our study, couples preparing for marriage perceive their families of origin more unbalanced than couples with problems. Members of couples with relational problems appear more stable in maintaining the family model of their families of origin; when they recognize them-selves as unbalanced, they seem to detect better the positive aspects of their families of origin. When couples in preparation for marriage find themselves in balance, seem to transform better dysfunctional elements of their families of origin; on the other hand they show greater difficul-ties when they feel unbalanced. In relation to the data obtained we have hypothesized a grid that can somehow guide us in the description of generational transitions from family origin to the current couple life.
