The article examines the evolution of Italian monetary policies in Benadir during the coloni- al period between 1893 and 1909. Starting from the examination of the monetary circulation within the Benadir territories, the article analyses the difficult and complex approach of the colonial government to the local monetary situation. In particular, the article retraces and in- terprets the main interventions in the monetary field by Italian administrators and the resist- ance strategies put in place by the local populations.
