The essay clarifies the Husserlian concept of boundary by interpreting it as a passage (Übergang) between different states and levels of consciousness. With particular at¬tention to Husserl’s late research manuscripts, the author investigates the meaning of biolo¬gical birth and death, dreamless sleep and original wakefulness, and the concept of the unconscious itself, looking for their relation to different senses of temporality.

Keywords: Phenomenology, birth, death, sleep, wakefulness, unconscious
