This work reconstructs the role of Military Justice in Fascist Italy’s mobilization of the Home Front during the Second world war. The analysis uses sources from both central and local administration and from military courts with a focus the judicial action of the Verona territorial military court. A quantitative and qualitative analysis reconstructs people’s everyday life during the Second world war. Thus, it allows us to better understand the way in which Fascism mobilized the Italian population; the role that the repression of mobilized workers had in governing the Home Front; and also the conflicts between different state administration branches. Studying the role of military justice in the fascist wars ultimately allows us to shed light on the role of military institutions in the ventennio, highlighting how the project to mobilize the entire society was supported, but also influenced by, military institutions and military justice.
Keywords: mobilization, home front, Italy, Fascism, World War II, military justice
