The essay proposes a reflection on rural and coastal territories in which there is a strong greenhouse economy. The aim is to focus on methods of interpretation and tools capable of inducing concrete forms of coexistence between production and living, between agriculture and tourism, with the need to protect the coastal environment and with respect to the social and environmental emergencies. The survey on the rural district of south-eastern Sicily builds a systemic and incremental transformation scenario of the so-called ‘transformed band.’ Some forms of maintenance and reinterpretation of the everyday life infrastructure are explored as devices to initiate the socio-ecological transition, responding to emergencies imposed both by consolidated dynamics of power and social-spatial injustice, and from the effects of climate change, which inevitably affect the effectiveness of the planning tools and policies.
Keywords: rural-coastal territories; everyday life infrastructure; socio-ecological transition
