Magnetic resonance imaging, essential in many hospital diagnostic and therapeutic processes, turns out to be a particularly complex and emotionally impacting procedure for the pediatric patient, whether it is proposed during sedation or while awake. Litera-ture has showed the importance, in preparation for such procedures, of offering children the possibility of a tailored “informed consent”, aligned with each one’s needs and re-sources, with the aim of helping young patients imagine an active and participatory posi-tioning within their clinical path, supported by information useful to them and by the possibility of giving voice to worries and fears, which, if not expressed, would not be processed. The Giocamico Project of the SC Psychology, active with this mission since 2012 at Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital of Bergamo, has started a collaboration with the SC Neuroradiology, with the aim of helping children who are about to undergo the MRI and their families to approach the planned care experience in the best way for them, supporting their resources and implementing an informed and active approach to care. In 2021, when such collaboration began, 121 children between 6 and 13 years of age were met within the Giocamico Project in preparation for MRI. Data show that 95% of chil-dren chose, autonomously and with the subsequent support of their parents, being able to manage it effectively, to carry out the resonance while awake, considering it a more sus-tainable choice, showing how active participation is perceived as a protective factor and facilitating the success of the procedure.
