Traditionally, philosophers have largely ignored immunology, considered a specialised biological subject devoted to the study of the molecular dimension of vital phenomena. In recent years, this is changing, as Swiatczak and Tauber (2020) point out, as concepts and suggestions emerge from the study of the immune system that relate to central philosophical issues such as the definition of the individual, the relationship between the individual and the physical and social environment, holism and reductionism, and the view of human evolution, to name but a few key ones. There is more. Philosophers are interested not only in what immunological reflection can contribute to philosophical reflection, but also in the contribution that philosophy can make to scientific work, through – as Thomas Pradeu (2019) writes – «a type of philosophical work that aspires to interact intimately with and contribute to science itself». To achieve this, we believe we must move from the philosophy of immunology to the philosophy of Psychoneuroendocrineimmunology.
