Through an analysis of the comics produced in the 1950s by children’s periodicals “Pioniere” and “Il Vittorioso”, this contribution reconstructs the creative visual practices of both Italian Communists and Catholics. This study explores the educational purposes of such practices and their role in performing identities. In particular, the author focuses on how the comics interpreted technological and scientifi c progress during the early phases of the Cold War. Thus, the article depicts illustrated weeklies as tools for cultural diplomacy and investigates the exchange between these print materials and the visual cultures of Italian political communication.
