During Italy’s so-called “Long 1968”, political comic strips experienced their “golden age”, thanks to the appearance in specialized magazines and their spread within the revolutionary press. Situated at the intersection between the history of publishing, history of political cultures, history of social movements and of the Italian far-left, this essay analyzes the evolution of Italian comics, highlighting the signifi cance of transnational networks. It focuses on the work by Alfredo Chiappori, Roberto Zamarin, and Renato Calligaro, while also taking into consideration the impact of feminism and the “movement of 1977” on artistic production and cultural consumption.
Keywords: political comic-book strips, revolutionary press, Italian far-left, feminism, “movement of 1977”
