This contribution is driven from research conducted in the Autonomous Province of Trento, aimed at exploring refugees and asylum seekers’ working trajectories outside the reception system. The local labour market is greedy of labour force to be employed in seasonal jobs and it represents a strong, but fragile attractive force. Within this situation, refugees and asylum seekers use some resources of the territory aimed at promoting their working and social inclusion. However, these resources are not only differently available and accessible according to migrant’s recognised social and cultural capital, juridical status, and experience and place of reception, but they embed some ambivalence: if by the one side they are “sea buoys” that help them, by the other one they are “sea nets” that entrap them in a precarious condition, which nevertheless isn’t able to inhibit completely their agency.
