The aim of this article is to understand how the perception of the film producer has evolved over time and how the “legitimacy” process can help to explain the factors that positively and negatively influence entrepreneurial activities. The analysis, conducted through the perusal of trade journals and other secondary sources, focuses on the Italian film industry over a chronological span from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of the 1960s, allowing us to observe the evolution of the Italian film industry from its origins to the success that Italian cinema attained on international markets after World War II.
