The present paper comments on the essays collected in History Education at the Edge of the Nation. Political Autonomy, Educational Reforms, and Memory-Shaping in European Periphery (Palgrave Macmillan, Cham 2023). The author discusses the volume on the background of the tensions emerging in history education in schools from the so-called “memory boom”. She focuses on three topics as a golden thread, namely the institutional legitimization of minority histories; the relevance of educational tools and the optionality of minority histories in school syllabuses.
