Since July 2021, in the Azienda USL Toscana Centro (Tuscany, Italy), has been activated a pilot project for the medications procurement process in the direct distribution warehouse of the hospital Santo Stefano in Prato. The goal is to optimize the stocks in such a way to reduce inventory costs and avoid the risk of stock out, taking into account demand, space and lot size constraints. The proposed methodology approach is an inventory management model for the warehouse in order to create a standard work that is easily understood by all operators. Outcomes obtained after six months since starting, show a significant reduction of the cost of stocks and an almost equal number of emergency orders.
