In this article-interview, the author engages in a dialogue with Klaus Dodds, a prominent scholar of critical geopolitics, delving into his main areas of research: popular geopolitics, the Arctic, and non-human geopolitics. The discussion highlights the tensions between classical and critical geopolitics, questioning how the analysis of discourses and representations can coexist with the concerns of realism and physical geography. Dodds’ geopolitical approach addresses not only ongoing territorial conflicts, such as the one between Israel and Gaza, but also the ways in which humanity interacts with the Earth, emphasizing how debates on territorial divisions risk overlooking ecological disruptions that impact all forms of life – and, consequently, geopolitics itself. This broader perspective advocates for a more (than) human geopolitics, attentive to both material and immaterial dimensions, which are essential drivers of global change.
