Gambling is an important phenomenon, data from the Ministry of Health speak of a prevalence of 3% of problem gamblers, equal to 1,500,000 individuals in the total population (data from the Ministry of Health). These data cause some concern at an institutional level, so much so that plans aimed at the care and treatment of this form of behavioral addiction are now increasingly widespread. This article will explore the relationship between dissociation and pathological gambling, with a particular focus on the profi le of gamblers in prison and the impact of the prison context on dissociative experiences. Finally, we will discuss the importance of diagnosis and accessibility to alternative measures, treatment interventions and the importance of a positive physical and relational environment as prevention tools.
