This article provides an overview of the accessibility of people with disabilities in contemporary society and in the workplace. Specifically, starting from the definition of disability, it analyzes the current Italian legislation concerning rights and protections. The professional inclusion of people with disabilities is often hindered by cultural barriers, such as stereotypes, stigma, and prejudice, which tend to portray disability as a limitation to productivity rather than recognizing the individual as a valuable workforce resource. In this context, the role of the Job Coach becomes crucial – a professional who acts as a bridge between the person with a disability, their family, and the world of work. To support the analysis, a national-level survey was conducted to identify the main physical and social barriers that can hinder the process of employment integration. In conclusion, a training experience for adolescents with disabilities is reported for which a toolbox useful for the figure of the job coach was used.
