After an Introductory note by Giorgio Meneguz, some excerpts (pp. 104-131) from the posthumously published autobiographical book by the German psychoanalyst Johannes Cremerius (1918-2002), edited by Wolfram Mauser with the collaboration of Astrid Lange-Kirchheim, Joachim Pfeffer, Carl Pietzcher & Petra Strasser, Ein Leben als Psychoanalytiker in Deutschland [“A Life as a Psychoanalyst in Germany”] (Würzburg, D: Königshausen & Neumann, 2006), are published. Cremerius recounts a trip to the United States in 1950, where he had gone for his training. Among other things, he describes his visits to some of the most eminent psychoanalysts of the time: in New York he visited Kurt R. Eissler, Sándor Radó, Theodor Reik, and Karen Horney, and also describes a supervision with Rudolph M. Loewenstein; in Chicago he visited Franz Alexander, in Boston Helene Deutsch, at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka (Kansas) Karl Menninger, and at the Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville (Maryland) Frieda Fromm-Reichmann. Back in New York, he recounts his experiences at Cornell University and Mount Sinai Hospital, and a visit to Jacob Moreno.
