The text reconstructs the scholarly profile of Rosanna Scatamacchia, starting from an analysis of the essays collected in the posthumous volume I numeri parlanti. It outlines the figure of a rigorous historian, attentive to archival sources and engaged in dialogue with the classics of historiography. Her method integrates economic and social history. Her research ranges from the history of the Bank of Italy to tourism, and to the encouraged “patriotic” mobilization in support of the war effort during the Great War, particularly through the campaign promoting the donation of gold objects to the government. The volume serves as a valuable tool for reflecting on the craft of the historian.
