The Author tries to test the clinical implications of an attempt to historically understand Freud’s thought on trauma, something he has analyzed in previous papers published in issues nos. 1/2008, 2/2009, and 4/2010 of the journal. To this aim, he presents a case history considering both its data and the whole analytic situation, i.e., giving account also of his "total countertransference" as defined by his relation with those data and Freud’s thought on trauma; besides, with his own distancing from it and his relation with a community of colleagues represented by some of them occasionally met and variously linked with that thought. To this purpose, he uses the device to split himself in the personalities of two different colleagues: whereof one is younger, and one older than he is.

Keywords: Trauma, woman’s image, memory disturbance, perversion, total countertransference
