Nel corso degli ultimi decenni l’opposizione diffusa verso la drammatica espansione della proprietà intellettuale ha contribuito a costruire una sfera quasi-pubblica della conoscenza digitale non commerciale. Tuttavia, i flussi di "sapere libero" hanno anche permesso da un lato lo sviluppo di una (parziale) regione inesplorata della sfera privata e senza scopo di lucro, e dall’altro la formazione di un nuovo modello imprenditoriale basato sul (celato) sfruttamento di lavoro digitale non retribuito, svolto prevalentemente nel tempo libero, con fini non commerciali. Questo aspetto ha ricevuto attenzione solo di recente. Nella letteratura sul tema si ravvisa quindi la mancanza di: i) un nome e una definizione del fenomeno, ii) una solida base teorica e iii) una descrizione empirica delle sue varietà. Il saggio cerca dunque di fare luce su questi tre ambiti e più in particolare: i) avanza e definisce il concetto di appropriazione inclusiva (IA), ii) àncora la IA alla dinamica di doppia libertà della conoscenza (ispirato alla doppia libertà della forza-lavoro di Marx) e iii) analizza tre forme di IA, rispettivamente associate ai software, ai contenuti e agli utenti che condividono dati online.
