In recent decades the number of people living a significant part of his adult life alone has increased exponentially in all Western countries: in Italy the 30% of households consists of a single person and in metropolitan areas we arrive at 50%. Despite the importance of this phenomenon has taken on and the impact it has on communities, it is still relatively absent from the cultural debate as well as the programming of social policies. The text deals with taking a gender perspective and, starting from data collected through a survey conducted in the city of Milan on a sample of 988 people aged over 40 years living alone, describes how they have faced the lockdown and, more generally, the Covid-19 pandemic.
Keywords: people living alone; gender; Milan; lockdown; Covid-19
