A child grows up within his family: his main sociotope. As he grows, his family will be put up for comparison, or even to competition, with the other spaces in which he forms his self-differentiation and autonomy, mainly at school and with peer groups. In the families we meet - which are often characterized by a strong and dysfunctional nuclearization- the family space is violently threatened due to the impossible integration of the external sociotopes of the teenager. The threat is mutual and reciprocal between the teenager and the rest of the family. When a hospitalization is deemed necessary, it must be done in such a way that this "pathological" external space becomes a place where each and every one can regain the freedom to express one’s skills, fears and hopes. The precondition for such an hospitalization is for the hospital to become a space open for an ongoing mediation between all family members without exception.
