The paper aimes at providing a general framework within which internal migration flows are analyzed. Starting from the "migration crossroads" role of Italy, old and new dimensions of the internal migration flows are analyzed, showing how the recent revival of the mobilit has been largely ignored or considered less relevant. This is the case, for example, of the long distance weekly commuting or of the skilled migrations. Therefore the analysis of internal migration flows needs to be incoporated (embedded) into the different labour market conditions.

Keywords: Migration crossroads, internal migration flows, labour market, long distance weekly commuting, higly qualified people migrations
