The paper proposes an analysis of the policies enforced by the governments in the housing sector during the years of the financial crisis. The author believes these policies have been ineffective because they have not supported the housing demand of the poorest families. Firstly, the government proposed to promote the construction of new housing; then it set itself the goal of pushing banks to grant loans for the purchase of the stock of unsold houses.
