In his long intellectual career Hilary Putnam worked in a great deal of philosophical areas, always offering lasting and often groundbreaking contributions. In this article we present some of those contributions, also stressing the connections Putnam made between his different views and the changes of mind that characterized his philosophical style. In particular, we discuss his conceptions of analyticity, necessity, and a priori, the phenomenon of conceptual relativity, his criticism of the alleged fact/value dichotomy, and the general realist background of his philosophy.
