In Italia il disturbo da gioco d’azzardo (DGA), classificato a pieno titolo dal DSM-5 come dipendenza patologica, ha raggiunto livelli allarmanti. Da qualche tempo è abbastanza chiaro che questo disturbo è la risultante dell’intreccio di più variabili: genetico, bio-temperamentale, psicologico-cognitivo, socio-ambientale. Le linee guida di paesi che già da tempo si occupano di questo problema e in genere la letteratura internazionale considerano l’approccio cognitivo-comportamentale come il più efficace (e senz’altro quello maggiormente oggetto di studi) per il trattamento del DGA. Costituenti essenziali di tale trattamento, sono il colloquio motivazionale, la psicoeducazione, la psicoterapia individuale o di gruppo finalizzata ad una correzione delle credenze erronee sul gioco d’azzardo e più in generale ad una ristrutturazione cognitiva, ad una implementazione delle competenze sociali e di coping, ad una ristrutturazione del proprio sistema di vita (fino a quel momento imperniato sul comportamento di gioco d’azzardo) ed infine alla prevenzione delle ricadute. Tale trattamento è da intendersi integrato con la terapia farmacologica, qualora fosse necessario, con l’intervento sulla famiglia, eventualmente in collaborazione con altri servizi territoriali.;
