The study explores debates and experiences on local democracy, nature and climate change, proposing a comparison based on ecological criticisms of environmental law. First, it reconstructs the link between the three elements and identifies the main ecological criticisms of environmental democracy. Then compares two models of environmental participation ("optative" and "prescriptive"), in the context of the threefold contemporary emergency (ecosystem, climate and fossil). Finally, it takes into consideration the litigation strategy and "eco-democracy" practices as reactions to these emergencies, in the contextual identification of the "climate mandate" as a new deliberative prescription for the "sustainable protection".
