In this section, authors reflect about their teaching experiences in foreign contexts. The aim of this collective reflection is to focus on risks, challenges and opportunities of working with international audiences in contexts marked by different urban planning cultures, regulations and references. In this light, a ‘visiting scholar’ becomes a link to different disciplinary approaches and methods, an interface between local cultures and trans-national debates, able to open cross-border relationships and comparisons. Eight scholars involved in teaching the course ‘Contemporary City: Descriptions and Projects’ at Politecnico di Milano (2013-2018) share their own recent experiences, gained from working and studying in schools of architecture and urban studies around the world.
