Textbooks are the pedagogic material used by most teachers. They are a key element for the socialization and behavioral learning of the students. For this reason, they can affect in traditional discrimination against women relative to men. Nowadays the visual stimuli are very important and consequently also the illustrations in textbooks. With the aim to value the possible gender discrimination, we use a quantitative methodology to analize the images of Moroccan primary education textbooks. Moroccan publishers try not to remain suspended in the tradition, opening new perspectives. They show women with a prominence and freedom unusual in the past. However, these books are not a true reflection of Moroccan society, where gender differences are a reality.
Given the international relevance of the Portuguese migration policies, this survey investigates the inclusion and integration processes related to secondgeneration immigrants who come from Portuguese-speaking African countries and attend the upper-school in Faro and Setúbal (Portugal). To reach this goal, during the 2009-2010 school-year, we realized a quantitative survey focusing on students’ educational achievement and its influence on teaching-learning processes. For this aim, we administrated a Likert’s scale questionnaire which measures the factors that play an important role in reaching the educational goals. We found that the most relevant and significant factors which contributed to the educational achievement of students were intrinsic: motivation processes and self-esteem.

Introduction. This study explores the link between accounting and art using an example of a painting by renowned Russian artist Boris Kustodiev - The Merchant, or an Old Man Counting Money. Aim of the work. This work aims to develop the provisions of visual accounting on the example of Russian painting as, hermeneutically, ‘every painting is an increment of being and subject to the essential definition as a representation, its formation’ (Gadamer, 1988, p. 196). Methodological approach. The paper is based on an indepth review of the central character in the painting - a merchant - and provides a detailed description of the objects that surround him, which feature the second dominant element complementing the figure of the merchant - a traditional Russian mechanical abacus. The study also includes a brief biography of the artist and an overview of his creative milestones as well as some facts about the life of the accountant that served as a model for the merchant character. Main findings. This study unveils the use of accounting tools in works of art and demonstrates how actors and users perceive accounting. Originality. The originality of the study lies in its first attempt to provide a detailed review of accounting through the prism of Russian art by using a methodology that can be adopted to analyse the creations of other artists dealing with subjects related to accounting, as well as to explore the works of accountants who contributed to art.
The relevance of the study of virtual communities lies in the fact that Internet communication continues to develop a different form of social interaction. The active formation of virtual communities is facilitated by the development of new information and communication environments, which, through unique technolo-gies based on interactivity, multimedia, globality, anonymity, asynchrony, and low marginal costs, ensure individual communication. Such "social" associations are formed as users who have common interests (discussions, conferences, etc.) or are interested in a specific topic, etc., cross over. Further "zones of mutual interest"are built on these basic theses, which promote mutual understanding and willingness to accept new values. The purpose of the article is to study the concept of a virtual community and determine their negative impact on a person and the state as a whole. The main method in the study was the method of analysis and synthesis of information. During the analysis of the literature on the above topic, the article ex-plored the concept of a virtual community and its role in the life of society. The negative impact on the person and the state is highlighted. It is determined that vir-tual culture can pose a potential threat to national security and it is described how to minimize these risks. The practical significance of the study is determined by the fact that the results of the study and the recommendations given by the author can be considered as one of the options for combating the threat to national secu-rity from virtual communities.
A circulation of elites: equestrian sports ABSTRACT: It’s proved the rooted and close relation between the military elite with the managerial team. In the case of the equestrian sport in Italy, the assimilation between gentleman and army officer (knight), usual in the ’800, has new evidence in the first half of the XX century. The noble class continues predominating in this field even if not with the old representatives. The old traditional land aristocracy shares the scene with the emerging industrial, trade, finance, culture and science new aristocracy. Again the connection between the emerging groups and the noble class in the period ’800-900 is basic to understand the circulation of elites. More widely equestrian sports are one of the most representative forms of the vanity life of the aristocracy, a unique occasion of sociability for all the high society including the royal family and the highest dignities of the government and of the parliament. What is now appearing on a long period is a strong bond between political and sport institutions where an economical-political-military elite, sharing a strong convergence of interests, an interexchangebility of managerial positions, sharing of cultural models and daily practices, shows at last a real stability.

Oral history has become firmly established as a method to delve into and bring to light the experiences and viewpoints of individuals who have been suppressed or marginalised in the history of psychiatry and mental healthcare. This article aims to provide an overview of the ways in which oral history has been deployed, both as a method and as a source, to address the absence of voices and the silences that continue to persist within the history of mental healthcare in the British context. The article argues for the relevance of oral history methodology to the history of psychiatry in restoring and amplifying the voices of the less powerful. The article will evidence how the collection of and re-use of oral histories of those at the receiving end of mental healthcare, and of those who provide it, has the potential to promote democratic relations in mental healthcare research by challenging traditional power relations in what historically has constituted the history of psychiatry. It has the power to bring to the fore the perspectives of key actors, particularly those with serious, long-term mental health conditions who remain under-served all along throughout the long history of mental healthcare, albeit in different ways. The article will show how oral history methodology can broaden the history of psychiatry and mental healthcare by addressing and redressing the silences and erasures therein in a range of disciplinary contexts and perspectives.
This paper explores the situation of Paris haute couture firms during the interwar period, focusing on the strategies deployed to face the Economic Depression. It first examines the figures of exports and failures as potential indicators of the impact of the crisis. Then, the article addresses the responses of haute couture to the Depression, starting with the action of the couturiers federated in the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture parisienne. Strategies of peculiar actors are considered next, particularly the activities of Georges Aubert, a financier who arguably founded the first luxury group in France. Research results show that the mergers and acquisitions launched by Aubert were hardly successful, and met with opposition from the haute couture profession. The paper then explores the range of strategies available to haute couture firms, from the reduction of overhead costs to the development of tie-in products. Finally, the paper underlines that the interwar period was a time of experimentation for the haute couture industry, which was relatively resilient in times of contraction of the economy.
