Rapid technological change in many industries is likely to be a critical condition in order to start-up user innovation dynamics within social groups. This study aims at investigating this phenomenon by using the notion of "high-tech consumers tribes" as unit of analysis. Five research propositions are drawn inductively from a case study. This is about the tribe of radio amateurs, which reacted to technological change of telecommunication industry by developing multimedia software linking their old beloved product (the ham-radio) to the VOIP communication network.
