Joan Tronto and many feminist scholars have conceived care as an essential theoretical and political resource to imagine an alternative to neoliberalism and revitalize democracy. Based on these premises, this article reflects on how the concrete actualization of an ideal of collective and shared care -. where both the domination of the market and the hierarchies of race and gender that shape the division between the public and domestic sphe¬re are removed - can simultaneously promote the conditions for a dignified life, stimulate political participation and transform communities in a more egalitarian way. To this end, it analyzes some localized practices of self-organization, developed or enhanced in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, that define themselves through the concept of care. Such practices prove capable of both innovating the political lexicon, combining the notion of «care» with categories such as «commons», «mutual aid» and «popular feminism», and representing the concrete utopia of an alternative world.
