The current economic downturn, a consequence of the financial crisis of 2008- 2009, has had a profound effect on businesses at a time of great global interdependence. This paper aims to analyze the experience of a medium-sized Umbrian business, and in particular the effect of the economic crisis, with regard to changes in competitive strategy in the post-crisis global context. The paper offers two keys for interpretation: the first concerns an analysis of company history, through a breakdown of the emergence, consolidation and transformation of internal expertise; the second focuses on strategy, and outlines the company’s competitive strategies before the crisis, action taken in dealing with the downturn, and any organizational changes that have taken place as a result, through the study of the company’s planned post-crisis development trajectory.
