Through a chronicle of events and data related to the British referendum of June 23, 2016, in which a majority of votes prevailed in favor of the exit from the European Union of the United Kingdom, the essay aims to offer a series of analytical and interpretative keys about the meanings of the British exit (Brexit), both in itself and with reference to certain scenarios from which to look either at possible developments of the post-Brexit and especially at the future horizon of the integration process, in that it concerns the present state of crisis of the Union, with regard to some of its main issues that arise respectively from a reflection on the referendum democracy and the representative democracy in Europe: the issue of supranational democracy; and that one relating to the consensus/dissent on Europe, this latter seen as a chance to develop a new narrative on Europe in relation with citizenship.
