This volume addresses the way in which the British government carried out its politics in Palestine between 1914 and 1924, supporting the Zionist movement in its aims of creating a «national home» in the Land of Israel. London transformed into political practises a long-lasting process of cultural construction of Palestine: the latter was simplified and interpreted according to an allegedly immutable Biblical past, so that the local population was completely overlooked and marginalised.

Keywords: Palestine, British Empire, Zionism, simplification, Orientalism
