Piracy and copyright violation have been analyzed in-depth by the economic literature in recent years. Nevertheless, most of the contributions focus on the study of monopoly. The paper analyzes the effect of piracy on collusion and payoffs in a market where two firms compete à la Bertrand, showing that, under general conditions, piracy might increase the payoff for firms.
